Supergirl to End After Six Seasons

By Kolawole Steven

Supergirl is one of the reasons why DC has made it better than Marvel on the small screen. Debuting in 2015, Supergirl starring Melissa Benoist, follows the 13 year old Kara Zorel  as her planet, Krypton was destroyed. She was sent to earth to protect her Cousin Kal El (Superman). But her pod got knocked off course and by the time she got to earth, her cousin had already grown up and become; Superman. And so she hid her powers. Until one day when her Adopted sister, Alex Danvers was in danger, and the accident made her to reveal herself to the world. To most people she is a reporter at Catco Worldwide Media. But in secret, she works with the the DEO to protect Earth from Alien life and stop anyone that means to cause it harm.

Supergirl has grown in the heart of fans over the years. It has inspired little boys and girls alike. It has also paved the way for other female led tv series like Batwoman, Stargirl, the yet to debut Green arrow and the Canaries and also the confirmed Latina Wondergirl. Supergril also paved the way for representation and has been largely politically focused. Melissa Beniost (Glee) has played the titular character gracefully and wonderfully. It is hard to imagine someone else taking the role. Among the cast include Chyler Leigh (Grey's Anatomy) as Alex Danvers, Chris wood (The Vampire Diaries) as Mon El, David Harewood as J'onn J'ones, Katie McGrant as Lena Luthor, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5, Mechad Brooks as James Olsen, Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, and Calista Flockhart as Catherine Grant.

It was announced on January 7, 2020, that the CW renewed the series for a sixth season, which is set to premiere in midseason 2021. On September 22, 2020, it was announced that the series would conclude after its upcoming twenty-episode sixth season. It was initially supposed to run for seven season, that was the contract deal signed by Melissa. There are speculations that the reason why it was reduced to six seasons was because of Melissa Beniost Recently becoming a mother and she would like to spend sometime with her child as she would like to be the baby. This was Melissa Beniost reaction to the show ending on her Instagram:

To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless.

She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.

I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season. ♥️ el mayarah 💪
